Pianist Chen Bowei wins second place at 2022 American Prize

Pianist Chen Bowei recently won second place at the 12th edition of the American Prize in professional solo piano performance, the competition committee announced this November.

Established in 2010, the American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts features a series of competitions for varied performing arts categories, including composition, conducting and performance.

Accepted into the Beijing International Children's Choir at the age of 8, Chen participated in the piano accompaniment of the choir's performances. He started focusing on piano accompaniment at 14 years old, and worked with renowned Chinese musicians in performances around the globe.

Chen chose to pursue further studies in the United States in 2009, studying at the department of music at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and performing with renowned musicians at international concert halls over the years.

"By studying abroad, I am deepening my understanding of the traditions of piano music, so as to enhance my artistic expression," he said.

"Only with the courage to forget one's past achievements, can one strive forward and make progress in the future journey."
