Splendid Chinese New Year Paintings, an exhibit of 100 pieces of nianhua, or New Year paintings, kicked off on Jan 13 at the China Cultural Center in Luxemburg to unveil the Chinese New Year celebrations in the European country.
Nianhua is a type of chromatic woodblock prints with a history dating to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24). A popular household decoration in during the Spring Festival, nianhua features motifs including immortals and auspicious symbols, ideal secular life, as well as chubby babies.
