To welcome the annual New Zealand Chinese Language Week from Sept 25 to Oct 1, the China Cultural Center in Wellington gave a lesson on Chinese hip-hop music to students at Clyde Quay School on Sept 23.

Zhang Lan, a teacher from the center, taught students to play Bajie Bajie, a hip-hop song about a character Zhu Bajie from classic Chinese literature Journey to the West.

A student named Eric showed a strong passion toward this hip-hop music.

“I want to know more about Bajie,” he said.

The school’s president Liz Patara praised the class and hoped the students would learn more Chinese culture and broaden their horizon.

Guo Zongguang, the center director, said promoting Chinese culture via music is more accessible to local young people.
