Lights of the City
Playwright: Li Longyun
Premiered in 2002
The drama Lights of the City begins with the renovation of dilapidated houses in southern Beijing. The project causes intense disputes among three brothers and their mother in the He family. The production succeeds in vividly creating a group of ordinary people and depicting the details and humor of daily life with strong folk styles native to Beijing. The simple but lifelike stage designs, including a hutong, dwellings and walls of the Temple of Heaven, also add to the artistic charm of the drama.
