China Philharmonic Orchestra will launch its 2022 to 2023 performing season.

On Aug 28, it will perform under the baton of conductor Yu Long, featuring famous music pieces including Pomp and Circumstance Marches and Enigma Variations, Op 36, by Edward Elgar, marking the English composer's 165th birth anniversary.

The concert will be held at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, which will be the venue for the concerts of China Philharmonic Orchestra's new performing season.

One of the highlights from the concert will be another music piece by the English composer, Cello Concerto in E Minor, Op 85. Audiences will get to enjoy the version adapted by Lionel Tertis, who is one of the great viola virtuosos of the 20th century. Chinese violist Mei Diyang will play the music piece along with the China Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mei has received the position of first principal viola at the Berliner Philharmoniker, which is the first time for a Chinese musician.

In 2020 and 2021, he planned to return to China to perform with China Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Yu, which was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It will be the first time that Mei plays this music piece.
