Opening the event on Saturday will be Lila Avilés's award-winning debut feature The Chambermaid. Winner of the Best Mexican Feature Film award at the Morelia International Film Festival in 2018, the film closely follows a young woman on her daily rounds of dreary tasks in one of Mexico City's posh hotels.
The second film to be screened is the documentary Concert for the Stubborn (2018), Claudia Ruiz Capdevielle's first work, which will offer the Chinese audience a window into Mexico's current indie music scene through the stories of two bands from Mexico City. A Q&A session will also be held with the director after the screening.
On Sunday, the first film to be screened is Kenya Márquez's 2019 drama film Suffocation, which follows Alma, an albino woman as she struggles to re-establish herself in society soon after being released from prison and recover custody of her daughter from her ex-partner. In 2020, the film was nominated for the Ariel Award for Best Picture, the highest award given in Mexico to a single film.
