Red inspiration
In order to survive the Long March, the Red Army soldiers consumed edible wild herbs, leather, tree barks and grass to keep them alive. These are also the subjects of the Recipe of the Red Army, a collection of 100 oil paintings by students of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. The students were inspired by these objects when they went on a trip to Sichuan province in 2016, which was one of the places the Red Army troops passed through during the Long March. The paintings are now on display at an exhibition celebrating the 20th anniversary of the foundation program at CAFA's School of Fine Art. The exhibition, which will run till May 1, showcases paintings, drawings, sketches and sculptures made by students from the program over the years. Many of the works on display are made by former students who are now reputable artists.
