Agriculture is the root and pillar of Chinese civilization, so it's only natural the ox, along with all of its bovine cousins the cow, buffalo, bull and bison, are beloved by the Chinese people.
Apart from the animal itself, the symbolism deriving from the ox also has become an integral part of Chinese culture. It is a common motif frequently found in literature, art and handicrafts. Even to this day, Chinese people would often use the word "ox" when paying a compliment to someone or something amazing.
