A series of lectures on animal welfare were recently held in Beijing, with the aim to promote cross-cultural exchanges and engage the general public in the field of animal protection.

The series, titled "All About Animals", is hosted by Iampetone, a platform that connects animal and environmental protection professionals and supporters from diverse cultural backgrounds.

For its first session in Beijing, which took place on Dec 16, an animal protection advocate from Taiwan, Jenny Hong, delivered a lecture in English on polar bears, from their habits and characteristics to their predicament and the actions humans can take to help alleviate their problems, while encouraging the listeners to participate in the discussion.

Initiated in 2012 in Beijing, the platform has included lecture series, concerts and exhibitions that serve to both immerse and inform the participants about the nature and its inhabitants.

"The core concept of our project is to use Chinese cultural elements to promote animal protection," said Miao Jian, founder of the platform, "We have been using various art forms, with most of them are scientific popularization events targeted at children and parents. Now we are shifting our focus on adults."

Miao said previously the events were held regularly in Shanghai since 2016. Coming back to Beijing, the lectures will be hosted at least every two weeks, with the goal to expand across Chinese cities in the future.
