Days of Culture of Turkmenistan was held in Beijing Sept 27 to 28. Ding Wei, vice-minister of China’s Ministry of Culture and his Turkmenistan counterpart attended the opening ceremony on Sept 27.

Ding and his Turkmenistan counterpart delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Ding said that both sides have had frequent cultural exchanges since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposal of the construction of the “Silk Road Economic Belt” during his visit tour to Central Asia in 2013 received positive response from Turkmenistan’s president and residents. The cultural event was held in the wake of the successful China Culture Day held in Turkmenistan last year. It was held to help more Chinese learn about Turkmenistan’s time-honored history and culture, the development of society and the new appearance of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmenistan’s side said that China and Turkmenistan are good friends and build strategic partnerships. Cultural exchange is an important part of the strategic partnership. This event played a positive role in deepening friendship between the two peoples and promoting cultural cooperation.

During the opening ceremony, Turkmen artists entertained audiences with various performances, including instrumental music, dance and Turkmen folk songs, which received enthusiastic applause from audiences.

Culture day was jointly sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, the Turkmenistan Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Turkmenistan in China and undertaken by China Arts and Entertainment Group. Within the framework, exhibition of fine and decorative and applied art and cultural exchange roundtable discussion were held at the same time.
