People don't usually expect to see a motor vehicle in an art exhibition, especially one of Chinese paintings.
However, this is the case at a recent show by Huang Hongtao, an ink artist and teacher at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts who is, other than a painter, also a motor vehicle enthusiast.
The vehicle creates chemistry with the ink paintings on display at the gallery Art News of China in Beijing. Not only does it show the different sides of the artist, but it is also a metaphor for the generation who grew up with cultural traditions and were exposed to a globalized context.
The China National Academy of Painting has launched a new exhibition series to show the works of artists from younger generations inaugurated by Huang's exhibition, Grow Unchained.
