Artworks of various kinds by dozens of artists and students from art academies across the country are on show, through to Dec 26, in the old alleys and streets of Longyou, decorating the outdoor spaces of quiet villages nearby, and at new museums in the county.
Ding Nan, the festival's curator, says the works are themed on water which not only refers to the physical form as a gift by nature to human to thrive on but also, water is associated with the best qualities and personalities and the greater good in the Chinese cultural tradition.
"When we talk about water, we are discussing the link between the universe and human civilizations, and the passing on of lives and cultures, by which we try to find new possibilities to invigorate the culture of the countryside," he says.
