Water, the source of life, has nurtured legends of world's ancient civilizations. The fifth episode of the video series, Water Rhyme Nourishing Culture, will take you to China's Grand Canal and Corinth Canal of the Hellenic Republic to witness the magnificence of human will and the constant flow of cultural pulse.
The first shovel of soil for the Grand Canal of China was excavated in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, more than 2000 years ago under the order of Fuchai, the King of Wu. The Grand Canal has greatly affected the process of Chinese history in its continuous evolution, and has also promoted the prosperity of Jiangsu.
The idea of the Corinth Canal began in ancient Greece, though it was not realized until after many centuries. The sea corridor connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea has shortened the sailing distance between the two places from 190 miles to 4 miles.
The canal is the longest footnote between man and nature in the past millennium. It will carry our honor and dream and continue to flow to the future.
