Traditional tea processing techniques and their associated social practices in China were included in the UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on Tuesday.

China has a long history of planting, picking, making and drinking tea, and has developed 2,000 tea varieties. Tea and tea processing have been part of Chinese people's daily lives and customs. A total of 44 registered national-level intangible cultural heritage entries in China are related to tea.

Yunnan province in Southwest China is one of the country's top tea producers, boasting the largest tea garden area nationwide.

Pu'er tea, a fermented tea prized for its pleasant aroma, initial bitter flavor burst and sweet aftertaste, is mainly produced in Yunnan. It is already a world-famous brand that has a history of more than 1,000 years, and is believed to have an anti-inflammatory effect.
