An exhibition titled "Into the New Era" opened last Friday at the Yanhuang Art Museum in Beijing, showcasing breathtaking scenery and cultural landscape of Southwest China's Xizang autonomous region through a number of photographs and artworks.

The exhibition features 86 pieces of Xizang-themed photographs and artworks, such as statues and Thangka paintings, under a variety of themes including natural landscape, religious belief, ethnic Tibetan culture, tradition and customs, as well as local people's daily life, depicting a panoramic picture of the highland from the past to the present.

The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau has provided an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Chinese artists, while innovative Xizang-themed creations have also become precious treasures as key part of Chinese culture, noted Tao Qin, deputy secretary of Leading Party Members Groups of China Artists Association.

Launched by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the event is co-hosted by the China Artists Association, China Photographers Association and Xizang Federation of Literary and Art Circles in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Xizang's peaceful liberation.

"Photography is the art of recording the present and reflecting reality. The new and old photos on display record miracles that took place in Xizang over the past 70 years," said Zheng Gengsheng, vice chairman of the China Photographers Association.

The exhibition is free and open to the public from May 21 to 27.
