Painting exhibition in Shandong celebrates vitality of life

Flowers Springing to Life, an exhibition at the Shandong Art Museum in Jinan, reviews Yan Ping's creation over the past decade by showing her oil works and sculptures. It runs until May 30.

Paintings on show include Yan's well-known local opera series. She takes great pleasures in enjoying local operas and employs theatrical elements in her creation. She says the rich emotions and cultural depths embraced by the operas sparkle with energies which keep empowering Chinese people.

Yan's works feature bold, explosive strokes and a strong palette underneath which she expresses concerns with the world from the perspective of a woman, a mother and an artist.

Her Mermaid series, also on show, discuss the more possibilities of life and career of women today. She says she hopes women will be brave, independent and knowledgeable and love the world and be loved.
