Collecting Memories From the Used is an exhibition of antique things assembled by private collectors over decades.
Dozens of centuries-old shadow puppets, picture books, portraits, statues and opera masks, to name a few, are on show at the Shi Art Museum in Beijing. They are vivid examples of the traditions, cultures and beliefs which have supported an old civilization and its people amid twists and turns.
The objects at the exhibition fall into three categories. One is dedicated to the tales and legends being passed down through generations via paintings, drawings, picture books and other forms of art on paper.
A second part shows portraits and statues which were made to remember the deceased and to convey a reminder of high morality and a respect for nature and the universe.
The third section shows objects of folk arts and crafts to reveal the beauty of details in everyday life.
