The hanging of lanterns in houses, streets and beyond remains an important tradition for Chinese New Year. Lanterns evoke a sense of joy with designs featuring things such as flying birds, leaping fish and even dazzling fireworks.
This year, craftsmen in Beijing are paying homage to traditional Chinese opera by making lanterns in the shape of the opera house.
