Some works show use of oil painting techniques introduced by Western missionaries who served at the royal court, the most famous of them being the Italian Giuseppe Castiglione whose paintings infusing Chinese and Western painting styles are also on display.
Also on show are paintings by Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong who were all avid art sponsors, as well as works by high-ranking officials who were also master artists and whose styles show the lineage of Chinese literati painting. The exhibition runs until March 7.
