Where Has Time Gone, a feature-length co-production, was the opening film at the upcoming 2nd BRICS Film Festival, held in Chengdu June 23-27.

The movie consists of five short stories, 18 minutes each, done by five directors from Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa and China (BRICS countries).

"Where Has the Time Gone is a universal theme. The directors each uses a unique narration style to explore the topic. And each film, done in the local language, portrays the country's unique culture," said Jia Zhangke, the chief producer of the project and Chinese filmmaker, adding that the film would be a successful demonstration of the deep communication and cooperation in the film industry among BRICS countries.

Besides Jia, the other directors are Walter Salles from Brazil, Aleksey Fedorchenko from Russia, Madhur Bhandarkar from India and Jahmil X.T. Quebka from South Africa.

The directors are all masters in their own right. For instance, Salles' Central Station was nominated for the Oscars in the best foreign language category in 1999, and Quebka is seen as one of the best directors in South Africa.

At the BRICS Film Cooperation Forum during the festival, a film co-production plan was launched for 2017 to 2021. According to the plan, artists from BRICS members will co-produce a film annually in the coming five years.

The film Where Has Time Gone will be screened worldwide as the first film co-produced by BRICS members.
