A cultural performance, The Color Extravaganza of Dunhuang, was staged Saturday as part of the closing ceremony of the annual (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo.

The colors of the costumes displayed in the show were derived from the murals in the Mogao Grottoes, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage site in Dunhuang, Northwest China’s Gansu province.

The Dunhuang murals have been preserved for thousands of years due to the special properties of the mineral pigments used in creating the paintings. Creative cultural products, including costumes, are crafted to spread the time-honored glory of Dunhuang culture and to raise awareness of heritage protection.
