Chinese choreographer/dancer Wang Yabin has been invited by the American Dance Festival this year to create a solo for the program Wondrous Women.
The annual American Dance Festival, which runs from June 14 to July 21, will include 53 performances by 26 companies and choreographers at 7 venues.
"We are excited to mark the 85th anniversary with performances encompassing the phenomenal breadth of modern dance. There is no question there will be something for everyone this season," says Jodee Nimerichter, the ADF executive director.
Women choreographers are the highlight of two programs, with one being Wondrous Women, including a solo from Camille A. Brown's latest work "ink"; and five solos commissioned by ADF and created by five women choreographers. Wang is one of the five.
For Wang, this is the second time she has been invited to American Dance Festival.
In 2010, she was invited to join the American Dance Festival International Choreographers Residence, during which time she premiered the dance Sepia, choreographed by Tatiana Baganova.
Speaking about the latest invite, Wang says: "I feel honored to be invited back to ADF. I really enjoyed the residence there. Now, I'm busy with the new solo, which is about my understanding of life... I hope audience will like it."
