Four dancers from Minzu University of China came together in a show, titled Soulful Steps, which presented the folk dances of the Dai, Kazakh, Mongolian and Tibetan ethnic groups infused with contemporary dance elements. The show was staged for two nights at Beijing's Inside-Out Theater.
Traditional instruments such as the Mongolian morin khuur or horsehead fiddle, the Kazakh dombra or long-necked lute and the Tibetan eagle-bone flute, were used in the show.
Premiering in September 2017 at Marina Bay, Singapore, the show was initiated by Mongolian dancer Hao Na, based in Singapore. The theme of Hao's work is to go back thousands of years to pay tribute to her ancestors, who lived in nature.
