A Chinese practice found in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta, is Fangsheng, to release animals, especially birds, during Chinese New Year. The practice frees birds to a new life in a natural environment, and expresses the hope for a new life for the releaser in the new year, as well as good health and luck. [Photo by Henry Wiraputra]
