Children play the ocarina in unison at the opening ceremony of the third Asia Ocarina Festival.

The third Asia Ocarina Festival (was held in Changping, Beijing on Aug 11. Themed Meeting at the Great Wall, Realizing Ocarina Dream, the festival attracted over 700 ocarina artists and lovers from Asia.

Ocarina is an ancient wind instrument which played an important role in ancient Chinese and Latin American cultures. It became popular in Asia in the1980s.

The festival consists of many interactive activities, such as an ocarina music lecture, ocarina exhibition and community ocarina concert. Participants gathered at the Great Wall-Juyongguan Pass and played the ocarina in unison the music Descendants of the Dragon and Auld Lang Syne.

A series of ocarina-themed culture activities will be held in Changping district during the next two months to promote culture and fashion consumption.

Founded in 2010, the Asia Ocarina Festival is held every two years. The first one was held in Incheon, South Korea in 2010 and the second one in Nagoya, Japan in 2012.
