1. From January 1 to 8, at the invitation of India’s Ministry of Culture, a 28-member art group of Liaoning Beijing Opera Troupe visited India for the 8th National Drama Festival of India in New Delhi, India, under the arrangement of CICA. The event has unveiled the curtain for the “China-India Friendship Year”.

2. On January 16, Fujita, Director of Japan Foundation in Beijing hosted a banquet for Executive Vice Chairman Liu Deyou.

3. On February 24, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for Shimu Zheyan, the principal of Japan Fukusuke Co., Ltd.

4. From March 1 to 8, at the invitation of the organizing committee of Bengal Asian Art Biennale, Professor Wu Xiaojiang from Shenyang Normal University visited Bengal for Biennale 2006 under the arrangement of CICA.

5. From March 8 to 18, at the invitation of Quito Municipal Government and Dance Foundation of Ecuador, a 20-member delegation of Guangdong Torch Art Troupe visited Ecuador for the 4th International Dance Festival – “Women Dancing” under the arrangement of CICA.

6. From March 9 to 14, at the invitation of New Zealand Asia-pacific Culture Exchange Center, 5-member CICA delegation led by Deputy Director-General Zhang Aiping, visited New Zealand. The delegation also entered into Memorandum of Cooperation on the performance tour of Western Australia Symphony Orchestra in China.

7. On March 10, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for Yitianxun, the principal of Japan Jiajia Co., Ltd., and discussed the holding of Sino-Japanese Culture Forum in November.

8. From April 16 to 26, at the invitation of Turkey Administration of Radio and Television, a 26-member group of Shantou Golden Phoenix Art Troupe of Guangdong Province visited Antalya, Turkey for the 28th International 4.23 Children Festival.

9. On April 20, the Executive Council Meeting of CICA was held in Oriental Garden Hotel Beijing. More than 30 senior officials of related departments and association and executive directors attended the meeting, including Sun Jiazheng, Minister of Culture, Zhu Muzhi, former Vice Minister of the Publicity Department, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the association, Liu Deyou, former Vice Minister of Culture and Executive Vice Chairman of the association, Lv Zhixian, former Vice Minister of Culture and Vice Chairman of the association, etc.. New leader group of the association was established upon this meeting: Sun Jiazheng and Liu Deyou were elected as Chairman and Executive Vice Chairman of the association; Pan Zhenzhou and Ai Qingchun were elected as Vice Chairman; Ding Wei became assistant minister and Vice Chairman of the association. 30 members were elected as new association executive directors including executive director Kong Yufang and 74 members including Ding Shizhong made up the council.

10. From May 8 to 21, at the invitation of CICA, a 115-member art group of Western Australia Symphony Orchestra visited Beijing for “Meet in Beijing” arts festival and held concerts in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) assigned a 2-member camera crew to cover the event and shoot documentaries.

11. On May 10, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for Kuroi Senji, Chairman of Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association.

12. From May 14 to 24, at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of Soka Gakkai Malaysia and Brunei, a 25-member art group of Beijing Dance Academy and Beijing Acrobatic Troupe visited Malaysia and Brunei for visiting performance under the arrangement of CICA.

13. From May 26 to 28, at the invitation of Niigata Association for Promotion of Japanese Culture, the legal entity of Niigata Foundation, Japan, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA and his wife visited Japan and attended culture lectures and other exchange activities in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of Niigata Association for Promotion of Japanese Culture.

14. From May 28 to June 2, at the invitation of CICA, a 7-member delegation of Anna Molafadu Orchestra visited Beijing and participated in “Meet in Beijing” arts festival and subsequent performances in Shanghai.

15. From June 16 to 30, at the invitation of CICA, China Image Co., Ltd of Japan assigned a 6-member camera crew to Beijing, Shaanxi, Lianyungang, etc. to produce a television program about the 5000-year Chinese civilization and the transmission of the time-honored culture into Japan.

16. On July 3, the reception in celebration of the 20th anniversary of CICA was held in Beijing Asia Hotel. Sun Jiazheng, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the association, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of the association, Meng Xiaosi, Vice Minister of Culture and senior officials from the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as ambassadors and diplomats from 17 countries such as France, Portugal and Japan were present at the reception.

21. July 7 to 13, CICA and Center of International Cultural Exchange jointly sponsored annual meeting of correspondents and special reporters from Cultural Exchange between China and Other Countries.

22. July 12 to 16, at the invitation of the local government of Istanbul Sidefurui, Turkey, CICA assigned a 25-member children art troupe of China National Children’s Center to Turkey for the 2nd International Cheese Culture Art Festival.

23. July 12 to 17, at the invitation of Latvia National Tradition and Performing Arts Center, CICA assigned a 20-member art group of Liaoning National Art Troupe to Latvia for “Baltic Sea 2006” international Folk Customs and Culture Festival from.

24. On July 20, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with and hosted a banquet for the delegation led by Japanese Professor Neitengjing from Tianjin University of Sport.

From August 1 to 7, at the invitation of Turkmenistan Department of Culture, Broadcasting and Television, CICA assigned a 20-member art troupe of China National Children’s Center to Turkmenistan for the International Children’s Art Festival “Golden Generation in Golden Century” held in Bashi City.

26. From August 1 to 10, at the invitation of Austria Association of Advancement for China–Europe International Relations, CICA assigned an 80-member art group of Huludao Guzheng Art Troupe of Liaoning to Austria for visiting performance.

27. On August 11, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA hosted a banquet for the delegation of Japan Junko Koshino Clothing Company led by its Chairman. Vice Secretary Zhang Aiping was present at the banquet as well.

28. From August 22 to September 5, at the invitation of related culture organizations from Egypt, Tanzania and South Africa, CICA assigned 5-member external publicity and study group of Liaoning International Culture Association to visit the abovementioned countries.

29. From September 17 to 24, in celebration of the 15th anniversary for the establishment of China – ASEAN dialogue relationship and Friendly Cooperation Year between China and ASEAN, a 15-member art group of China National Art Troupe took part in activities for “China–Burma Culture Week” in Rangoon at the invitation of Burma’s Ministry of Culture under the arrangement of CICA.

30. From September 22 to 25, CICA and Linyi Bureau of Culture jointly sponsored The 4th Calligraphy Saint Culture Art Festival in Linyi.

31. From September 27 to October 1, at the invitation of Tadzhikistan’s Ministry of Culture and in celebration of Premier Wen Jiabao’s visit to Tadzhikistan, CICA assigned a 15-member art group from China National Art Troupe to Tadzhikistan for visiting performance.

32. On September 30, at the invitation of Linyi Bureau of Culture and Chairman of Tai Calligraphy Group, a Japanese calligraphy group, Zhang Aiping, Deputy Director-General for External Cultural Relations and Vice Secretary-General of CICA attended the unveiling ceremony for title stele held in Linyi and by Tai Calligraphy Group.

33. On October 10, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met Japanese Professor Neitengjing from Beijing Normal University Zhuhai campus.

34. On October 16, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met with the 9-member delegation of Japan Incense Lore Zhixinliu. Zhang Rui, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations under Ministry of Culture was present at the meeting.

35. On October 21 to 26, Peace Flag, the 2nd Drawing Flag Exhibition for Children of the World Calling for Peace, jointly sponsored by CICA and Association for the Promotion of Chinese Children’s literature and art was solemnly opened in Zhongshan Hall of Beijing Zhongshan Park. Gu Xiulian, Vice chairman, National People’s Congress, Lv Zhixian, consultant of CICA, etc. attended the opening.

36. On October 23, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met Tsuda, the Standing Director of Japanese Youth Culture Center and 6-member journalists delegation from Nihon Keizai Shimbun, and interviewed by reporter from Nihon Keizai Shimbun on Beijing opera policy and culture exchange between China and Japan.

37. On October 26, Kitakinki Michiko visited China and made a study trip on art galleries in Beijing and Shanghai in preparations for individual exhibition at the cities in 2007.

38. From November 20 to December 3, at the invitation of Japan, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA visited Japan and made a speech at “Sino-Japanese Culture Forum”, an important program of the “Chinese Culture Festival” jointly sponsored by Ministry of Culture and Japanese embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Later at the invitation of Japan International Haiku Association, Liu made a speech at Haiku meeting in Japan.

39. From November 24 to 26, at the invitation of Shanghai International Culture Association, Pan Zhenzhou, Vice Chairman of CICA visited Shanghai in celebration of the meeting for the 20th anniversary of Shanghai International Culture Association.

40. On December 12, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met the 5-member delegation from University of Tokyo, Japan to China.

41. On December 14, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met the 7-member delegation of Japan ADK Company to China and discussed matters on sending Kabuki to China for performances.

42. On December 22, Liu Deyou, Executive Vice Chairman of CICA met the 9-member delegation led by Tamasuburo Bando, a master of Japanese Kabuki and discussed matters related to joint performances by actors from China and Japan in Peony Pavilion in Japan in 2008.
