Events of China International Culture Association (2010)

1. From February 1 to 9, in celebration of the Chinese Spring Festival, Peking Opera White Snake , Exhibition of Chinese Peking Opera and Mei Lanfang and Seminar were presented in the University of Hawaii, the US. The events were co-sponsored by CICA and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture.

2. From February 4 to 6, Lan Weiwei and Yang Xue, young Pipa and Erhu players from the Central Conservatory of Music participated in “China Chamber Music Festival” in Sydney under the sponsorship of CICA.

3. From February 4 to 10, at the invitation of Thailand Rangsit University, CICA sent a 20-member dance troupe from Beijing Dance Academy to Thailand for performances of the Han and Tang dances and classical ballet.in celebration of Queen Sirikit’s birthday.

4. From February 20 to 26, “Chinese Culture Week in Dubai of UAE”, a program of the 2010 “Happy Spring Festival”, was held in Dubai under the patronage of CICA, Chinese Consulate General in Dubai and Dubai Avis Cultural Foundation. The program featured performances by the Beauty and Melody Orchestra of Sichuan Province, China Peking Opera Troupe, “Foshan Porcelain and Modern Painting Exhibition” of Guangdong Province, “China-UAE Cultural Exchange Seminar” and the film Chuncao and Her Mother. A CICA delegation headed by Mme. Hou Xianghua, Director-General for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture, was present at the above-mentioned events.

5. In February, Volume 6 Chinese Art of the Encyclopedia of Chinese Moral Civilization was published by Russian Far East Institute with a funding of $20,000 from CICA.

6. On March 3, Hou Xianghua, Deputy Director General of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations and CICA Vice Secretary-General met with the delegation of Tokyo Television Station (TBS Television Station) led by Yasuo Yagi, Deputy Director of the TV station.

7. From March 18 to 27, “Imagination of Expo - Children's Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition”, with CICA as a steering unit and Shanghai International Culture Association and Tunisia Aiermangzha Youth Center as sponsors, was inaugurated in Tunis Tunisia Aiermangzha Youth Center. Counselor Peng Youke attended the activity on behalf of CICA. The activity was vigorously supported by Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau and the Chinese Embassy in Tunis. The NPC Vice Chairman Wang Zhaoguo, Tunisian Minister of Youth and Sports Labi Di, Chinese Ambassador in Tunisia Li Beifen and other guests of honor attended the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the exhibition.

8. From May 26 to June 5, recommended by Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh and invited by CICA, Ms. Mao Dude, famous writer from Bengal visited Beijing, Xi'an, Kunming and other cities in China.

9. From May 6 to May 16, at the invitation of the Queensland College of Music, Australian National University and Canberra International Music Festival, an 11-member art group of the Forbidden City New Music Troupe visited Australia for performances and academic exchanges under the patronage of CICA.

10. From June 10 to 14, the Chinese-Japanese version of Kunqu Opera The Peony Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo and special performances of China-Japan opera masters in celebration of Shanghai World Expo were staged in the Grand Shanghai Lyceum Theatre. The events were co-sponsored by CICA and China Shanghai International Arts Festival and organized by Beijing Menghua Tingyuan Culture and Media Co., Ltd. A CICA delegation led by Vice Chairman Pan Zhenzhou was present at the performance.

11. From July 6 to 21, the 3rd China International Youth Arts Week was opened in Communication University of China in Beijing. Themed on “in touch with the youths”, the Youth Week provided the young audiences with two exhibitions and six performances.

12. From July 19 to 29, Xiao Suhua, senior professor of Beijing Dance Academy, was invited to Varna, Bulgaria to serve as a judge at the invitation of the 24th Varna International Ballet Competition under the patronage of CICA.

13. From August 3 to 24, a 17-member art group of Guizhou Art Troupe participated in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival under the auspices of CICA.

14. From August 28 to September 6, at the invitation of CICA, a 5-member delegation of Japan-China Friendship Center led by its president Murakami Tatsumi visited Beijing, Gansu, Xinjiang, Shanghai and other places.

15. From September 17 to October 16, “The Sino-Japanese Friendly Exchanges I have experienced - Collection of Photographs by Liu Deyou” was held at the Cultural Center of Tokyo under the sponsorship of CICA, the National Museum of China and Tokyo Cultural Center in China. The exhibition showcased a total of 172 photos about the Sino-Japanese friendly exchanges collected by Liu Deyou, former Vice Minister of Culture and former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA in a span of 60 years. More than 700 photos were included into the picture album of the same name. Sun Jiazheng, Vice Chairman of CPPCC and CICA President wrote an inscription for the album and Cai Wu, Minister of Culture wrote a congratulatory message for the exhibition. Cheng Yonghua, the Chinese Ambassador to Japan attended and addressed the opening ceremony and more than 300 guests from seven Sino-Japanese friendly groups attended the opening ceremony. A CICA delegation led by Liu Deyou attended the opening ceremony and book donation ceremony of “The Sino-Japanese Friendly Exchanges I have experienced - Liu Deyou Photo Exhibition”. The delegation was also invited by memorial hall in OKaheita to attend “the 9th Speech on ‘Thinking of the World Peace Pathway Pursued by OKaheita’”.

16. From October to November, the public performances of Chinese-Japanese version of Kunqu Opera The Peony Pavilion, sponsored by CICA and presented by Beijing Menghua Tingyuan Culture and Media Co., Ltd., were held in Tokyo of Japan, Hong Kong and Shenzhen of China respectively.

17. From October 22 to 25, "Banner of Peace"- the 4th Flag Painting Exhibition about World Children Calling for Peace, jointly sponsored by CICA, China Association For Promoting Children’s Culture And Art and UN organizations in China and organized by China Foundation for the Development of Social Culture, was held at the Beijing National Stadium Plaza. Present at the opening ceremony and the ribbon-cutting session were Ismail Tiliwaldi, the NPC Vice Chairman, Lin Liyun, ARATS Consultant, Ai Qingchun, former Vice Minister of Culture and Vice Chairman of CICA, Hou Xianghua, Deputy Director-General for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture and Vice Secretary-General of CICA as well as representatives of the UN organizations on October 23. The 4th Flag Painting Exhibition about the World Children Calling for Peace of Banner of Peace collected 3078 domestic and foreign children's paintings. More than 800 children from China, Russia, Malaysia and Singapore and other countries attended the opening ceremony. Gu Xiulian, former Vice Chairman of National People's Congress, Ai Qingchun, former Vice Minister of Culture and CICA Vice Chairman, Dong Junxin, Director-General for External Cultural Relations and Secretary-General of CICA attended the award presentation ceremony on October 24.

18. From November 3 to 10, the “Taizan Yanagida Calligraphy Exhibition”, jointly hosted by CICA and the National Art Museum of China and organized by Beijing Qiming Oriental Culture Exchange Center, was held in National Art Museum of China. Liu Deyou, former Executive Vice Chairman of CICA, Dong Junxin, Director-General for External Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Culture and CICA Secretary-General, Fan Di’an, Director of National Art Museum of China, Zhang Hai, the Chairman of Chinese Calligraphers Association, Lin Xiu, CICA Chairman and Vice Chairman of China Calligraphers Association and Uichiro Niwa, Japanese Ambassador to China attended the opening ceremony at the National Art Museum of China on November 3.

19. On November 9, the General Council Meeting of CICA was held in Beijing. The meeting elected new leadership of CICA, the executive directors and directors.

As of November 2010, CICA has organized 19 events of various kinds, including 3 exhibitions, 7 performances, 1 funded publication, 4 comprehensive exchange activities and 2 receptions of visits, etc.
