The tour is popular among participating students and the public. It developed from the 2004 Scholarship Trip and aims at awarding a field visit to overseas students who are good at Chinese, Chinese painting and calligraphy, kung fu and other aspects of Chinese culture. As a great exchange and experience, it will further promote Chinese culture, optimize resources from home and abroad and eventually evolve into an iconic sharing platform for domestic and foreign cultural institutions. It has been held 12 times under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and overseas China Cultural Centers.
The 2016 tour is organized by the Ministry of Culture's Bureau for External Cultural Relations, along with the Centre of International Cultural Exchange and the China Arts and Entertainment Group.
