Solo of Hèctor Parra, composer with whom he collaborates regularly, after having also performed, last season, the premiere of his Piano Sonata in Spain,within the cycle of concerts of the BBVA Foundation in Bilbao.
Upcoming engagements for 15/16 include, among other projects, recitals at thePalau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona and at Carnegie Hall (Weill Hall) inNew York, performing Goyescas to mark the Enrique Granados centenary, program that will also carry out an international tour including the Beijing Concert Hall and other halls in China.
Awarded in several international competitions, José Menor made his international debut at the age of fifteen at Carnegie Hall in New York, after winning the first prize in the youth category of The World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, United States. Since then he has developed a continuing activity as soloist.
In 2009, José Menor, was very well received by the international press in his debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) in London, playing the "ʺConcierto Fantástico"ʺ by Albéniz, on the centenary of the composer, premiering this concert in different countries, including the premiere throughout the Americas, with the Symphonic Orchestra of Xalapa, (Mexico).
José Menor performs regularly as a soloist with orchestras in Europe, USA, Latin America and Asia, including, among others: : Orquestra de la RTVE en Madrid; la Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC); Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès (OSV); Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE); Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (JONC); ); Filarmónica de Wuhan (China); Orchestra da Camera (Birmingham, UK); Redlands Symphony(California, United States); Orquesta Filarmónica de Montevideo (Uruguay);Landeskapelle Eisenach (Germany); or orchestras in Poland such as WroclawPhilharmonic or the Filharmonia Pomorska in Bydgoszcz.
Recent recital appearances include the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, and this season include a concert tour organized by the CNDM (Beethoven with Spanish accent) in the Cultural Cordón in Burgos (Spain), the auditoriums of Valladolid and Cuenca and the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada.
As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with stars like the violinist Philip Setzer (Emerson Quartet, winner of 9 Grammys) within the group New York Chamber Musicians (NYCM) or with musicians like Ransom Wilson, David Cohen, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Dai Miyata, Peijun Xu, Istvan Vardai, among others. Nowadays collaborates regularly with the Spanish violinist settled in the US, Francisco Fullana.
His peculiar interest in contemporary music of our country and his willingness to spread this music outside our borders, has led him to premiere new works and play music of different authors such as Hector Parra, Benet Casablancas, Erkoreka Gabriel, Joan Albert Bitter, Josep Soler, or Ramon Paus, among others.
As a composer, he has performed several premieres, highlighting his work for piano "ʺNotes on Crossroads"ʺ premiered by himself at the SGAE headquarters inMadrid, in October 2013. Recently he has premiered several works for piano and electronica in collaboration with RMSonce, presenting the project "ʺJosephMenor & RMSonce"ʺ in several concert halls in New York (April 2014).José Menor has been professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música delLiceu in 2012/13 and between 2013 and 2015 he has become a "ʺLeverhulmeArtist"ʺ because of his junior fellowship with the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Born in Sabadell, José studied piano, compositionand conducting at the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Barcelona.Subsequently he completed the "ʺMaster of Music"ʺ at the Royal College of Music in London, the "ʺArtist Diploma"ʺ at Yale University (USA), and participated with full fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival (Colorado, USA), working withthe American pianist Ann Schein.He is currently an Advanced Doctoral Candidate in the State University of New York at Stony Brook (Stony Brook University). Menor has received masterclasses from the internationally renowned pianists such as Stephen Hough,Cristina Ortiz, Emanuel Ax, Richard Goode, Claude Frank, and Joaquín Achúcarro.
