Total box office revenue over the three-day New Year Day Holiday in China has hit a record high.

The box office stands at 849 million yuan or some $130 million. That's almost double that of the same period last year, which was 447 million yuan ($70 million).

346 million yuan was taken on New Year's Day alone.

Gangster comedy Mr. Six topped last week's box office, raking in some 440 million yuan.

Chinatown Detective was not far behind, taking 420 million.

Fantasy Adventure Mojin: the Lost Legend took third place grossing 340 million yuan.
