La Sylphide made its Chinese debut in 1999 by the National Ballet of China. On the basis of the 1999 version, the troupe re-rehearsed the classic ballet show this year. Renowned young ballet dancers Qiu Yunting and Sun Ruichen assumed the leading roles.
In addition, Susanne Grinder and Ulrik Birkkjær, principal ballet dancers of Royal Danish Ballet, were invited to perform the lead roles, of Sylphide and James. Frank Andersen, former artistic director of Royal Danish Ballet, guided the rehearsal at special invitation.
