Details of the 7th Chinese Huangmei opera art festival, which will run from September 28 to October 8 in Anqing city, Anhui province, were announced at a press conference in Beijing on July 16.
Anqing is a national historical city and home to Huangmei opera, one of the oldest operatic genres in China with a history dating back to more than 200 years.
Chinese Huangmei opera art festival has been held annually in Anqing for six years, it is one of the three state permitted festive activities that are named after traditional operatic genres.
This year, the art festival will feature a wide range of activities. 20-30 classic Huangmei opera performances will be staged in Anqing. The organizers have invited not only State-owned theaters, but also private performing companies and art groups to perform during the event.
Another notable feature of this year's festival is that the schedule is not only restricted to Huangmei opera performances, but academic forums and cultural tours have also been included. Experts and scholars will be invited to attend seminars on Huangmei opera culture, and representatives of Anhui entrepreneurs will tour Anqing to explore its natural landscape and historical sites.
