Skopje Dance Theater (SDT), lead by one of the most popular Macedonian choreographers, Risima Risimkin, is the first professional contemporary dance company in Macedonia, supported by the Ministry of culture. The theater is based in Skopje, capitol of Macedonia and has its own space and stage ZEBRA.

Founded in 2011, SDT is producing 4 premieres by year and has guest tours throughout Macedonia, the region and Europe. From the very beginning the aesthetic of the theater is modern, fresh and looking for new challenges, developing their own philosophy, based on the research of the connection between body and mind. Skopje Dance Theater has guest choreographers from abroad, but also, promotes young emerging artist and new choreographers. Skopje Dance Theater has a strong connection with Skopje Dance Academy, the first academy on university level for contemporary dance in the whole region. SDA is working in partnership with the prestigious Rotterdam dance Academy from Netherlands. SDA students are participating in the program of Skopje Dance Theater, where they can work with high level choreographers and perform in Skopje, Macedonia, but also abroad. By now Skopje Dance Theater has produced: "The World In-Between" & "Orlando" by Risima Risimkin, “Man in the corridor” by Nada Koktovik & Risima Risimkin; then “HOT”; “SEARCH”; series of performances named “Impulse”, with short choreographies: "Psychotic Wind", "Oracle" & "Duet of crystal" by Katsura Kan; "Touch" by Igor Kirov; "Lost" by Matea Kiselicka; "The path of evolution" by Ljupcho Atansanov; "The road of love" by Adriana Atanasova; "Warm up the cold" by Matea Kiselicka; "Impact" by Igor Kirov; "Present Future" by Tim Persent; "In the fields of haven" by Risima Risimkin; "Ex-urgency" by Joan Van Der Mast, 33° (thirty-three degrees) by Dora Kokolj, Valentino Apostolovski & Andrijana Danchevska; “Ludus” by Risima Risimkin; “Alive somewhere else” by Adrijana Danchevska.

SDA has had guest tours in Croatia, Festival for contemporary Dance and non verbal theater, St. Vincento (2011); Tanzmesse in Dusseldorf and Culturbunker in Koln, Germany (2012); ITS festival in Amsterdam, Netherlands (2013) and several guest performances in other cities in Macedonia. In this moment we are preparing the “Open stage program” (with emerging artist) co-production with New Dance Center form The Hague, Netherlands. This performance will be present on Dance Fest Skopje, Macedonia (April) and in Rotterdam, The Hague and Amsterdam, Netherlands (December 2015). The second co-production for this year, is the performance “Chiaroscuro” (choreography by Antonello Tudesco, Italy and Risima Risimkin, Macedonia) in collaboration with Ballet Theater Torino, Italy, which will premiered in Torino, Italy (November 2015).
