The Netherlands: Strong eco-consciousness

Wang raised villages in the Randstad, a conurbation in the Netherlands, as another example of well-preserved villages in the world.

"Soil, rivers and vegetations in Randstad were systematically assessed as unsuitable for construction. The rich arable land and fresh-water resources have also laid a solid foundation for environment protection," said Wang.

"The Dutch government planned meticulously to keep and maintain the greens of the Randstad Region (also often referred to as the green heart of Holland)," she added.

Commercial and residential land use is strictly controlled without discouraging development of eco-compatible industries. Finding balance between the protecting the ecosystem and sustainable production lays at the center of preservation of these villages.
