Porcelains from the Chenghua period (1465-87) can be considered the epitome of Jingdezhen potters. The bowl is an archetypal example and no other piece of Chenghua blue-and-white better embodies the special appeal of that period. The musk-mallow bowl is one of only two bowls in this design still remaining in private hands.
