China Jieli Publishing wins prize at Bologna Children's Book Fair
China Jieli Publishing House has won the Bop-Bologna Prize Best Children's Publishers of the Year 2020, the world-renowned Bologna Children’s Book Fair announced on May 5 through a live global broadcast. Established in 2013, the prize is awarded annually to the most innovative, outstanding and original publishers in their expertise from Africa, Central and South America, North America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. Jieli Publishing House became the second children's publishing house in the Chinese mainland to win this award.
The shortlist was formulated by exhibitors of the Bologna Children's Book Fair, publishing associations and reading promotion agencies all over the world. The winner was chosen from the shortlist by exhibitors at the fair, with one publisher from one country in each large region winning. Five Asian publishers from four countries, including China and Japan, were shortlisted this year.
In terms of international publishing cooperation, Jieli Publishing House does not stop at simply carrying out copyright trade. Instead, it provides more opportunities for communication between Chinese and foreign children's publishing industries through various innovative modes, such as establishing overseas cooperatives and setting awards, and has won recognition from the international children's publishing community.
In 2019, the China-ASEAN Children's Publishing And Reading Forum and ASEAN-China Children's Book Copyright Fair, organized by the publishing house, were held in South China's Nanning City, with over 300 kinds of copyright export intentions achieved. This is the first publishing and reading forum held in China since the establishment of the ASEAN-China strategic partnership. Representatives of 10 publishing houses from six ASEAN countries, two publishing houses from South Asia and 12 from China discussed the current situation of children’s reading and the current of children's book publishing. During this period, the Jieli-ASEAN Children's Book Alliance was formally established, which is the first children's book alliance established between China and ASEAN countries.
By the end of March 2020, Jieli Publishing House exported more than 700 kinds of books to more than 30 countries and regions, including Germany, Britain, France, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia. Copyright output has increased for five consecutive years.
