Introduction of Window for ASEAN-China Children’s Cultural Exchanges

WACCCE 2016-02-26

Since the establishment of ASEAN-China Dialogue relations, culture has set up a bridge for communications, opened the window of soul to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the people, and hence played a positive and unique role for the development of relations between ASEAN and China. 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue relations and it is also the first year following the realization of the ASEAN Community. Taking both of the historical junctions as new starting points of ASEAN-China relations, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) has initiated a project named Window for ASEAN-China Children’s Cultural Exchanges (WACCCE). The project will be launched on 11 March 2016.

The WACCCE is sponsored by ACC, presented by China Daily Website, and supported by children’s cultural institutions and activity centers such as China National Theatre for Children (CNTC) and China Song Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF). It is designed to be a long term platform dedicated to ASEAN-China children’s cultural exchanges, by gathering all major resources, taking advantages of internet for its fast distribution and wide coverage of information, and carefully selecting the contents and styles loved by children, to sow seeds of friendship and cooperation in their young hearts, so as to make far reaching impacts on the development of ASEAN-China relations.

The WACCCE will be kicked off in 2016 as a webpage linked to the official websites of its sponsor and the presenter. Contacts and consultations with relevant institutions of ASEAN and individual ASEAN Member States will follow in the same year. The 50th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN COCI) held on 9-11 November 2015 in Indonesia recognized that information and culture programmes have to target and involve the youth and the COCI will launch a programme for young bloggers and the ASEAN Virtual Learning Resource Centre website. With all these efforts of both ASEAN and China for the youth, it is hopeful that the WACCCE can enjoy cooperation with its ASEAN counterparts, and become a convenient online bridge over ASEAN and China for children’s cultural exchanges.
