National Museum of China
The National Museum of China (NMC) is located on the east side of Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing, opposite the Great Hall of the People. Under the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China, the NMC is a comprehensive museum featuring works of historical and artistic significance. The museum collects relics, holds exhibitions, and is involved in research, archaeology, public education and cultural exchanges.
The NMC houses more than 1.4 million items in its collection, covering ancient and modern artifacts, rare and antiquated books, and works of art. Notably, its collection includes nearly 6,000 grade-one cultural relics. With a total of 48 galleries, the renovated museum occupies nearly 200,000 square meters, making it the largest single-building museum in the world in terms of floor space. Its overall size ranks it among the top museums in the world. The museum also contains the richest collection of Chinese cultural relics. In 2018, the number of visitors to the national museum reached a record high of 8.61 million, making it one of the most popular museums in the world.
