Thailand gives encouragement to China

On Feb 14, Valentine's Day, three thousand students from Thailand sent best wishes to China in the fight against the novel coronavirus. They did so in a special way — one which might best be described as heart-warming.

About 3,000 students gathered in Ayutthaya to send Valentine's Day greetings to China, according to Reuters. Teachers and students at the local Jirasat Wittaya School cheered for China, saying “Come on, China,” and raising their hands above their heads to create a heart shape with their bodies.

What's more, two elephants also participated. They stood on either side of the people and looked at each other. One elephant was wearing the Thai national flag, and the other a five-star red flag. Reuters called the greeting an expression of “great love.”

“Encouragement of people from other countries can give Chinese people confidence and encourage us to move on,” said a Chinese teacher from Xiamen, China who teaches Chinese at the school. “We will be very grateful if the Thai people can show their trust and support to China.”

After the breakout of the novel coronavirus, Thai people from the royals to the general public encouraged and supported Chinese people in many ways. On the streets of Bangkok, many shopping malls and hotels displayed signs in both Chinese and Thai on LED screens that say “Come on, China! Come on, Wuhan!” and “Thai people and Chinese people are heart to heart”. Local governments, enterprises and schools have also made videos to cheer up the Chinese people.

King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand as well as Anuttin, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, expressed their warm wishes for China to overcome the disease. Thailand and China have always had a good relationship. Since China never gave up on Thailand when it faced difficulties, Thailand will also offer a helping hand to China in its hour of need.
