Belt and Road International Regatta held in Singapore
On Jan 5, 2020, the first session of the Belt and Road International Regatta for youth sailing came to an end successfully in Singapore. The host and Chinese youth players went to the east coast of Singapore and visited local sailing and sailboard groups. The organizing committee also discussed sports facilities with the local yacht club.
During the competition, players from China, Vietnam and Singapore attended a communication course on sailing and jointly competed in a friendly match.
The sponsor of the competition paid close attention to the development of youth sailing, preparing an exchange for youth players held during this series, rare in international competition.
Youth sailing is the future of marine sports. The Belt and Road International Regatta in Singapore provided Vietnam and Cambodia, still undeveloped in sailing sports, with an opportunity to promote themselves. Mr. Pong, secretary of the Vietnam Sailing Association, said this competition is a good opportunity for promotion. Qingchun Tan, management specialist of the international cooperation department for East Asia of the Vietnam General Administration of Sport pointed out sailing in Vietnam is still new and most players are young.“We hope this competition would give our players more opportunities to build up experience.” Qiang Xie, vice president of the Guangxi Sport Bureau, said sailing competition is an important platform for Chinese and ASEAN sailors to train and establish a friendship with each other.
