China-ASEAN soccer tournament ends with Thailand winning the crown
The closing ceremony of the 2019 “Soong Ching Ling Cup” China-ASEAN Youth Football Friendly Match was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on August 6, 2019. The event was organized by ASEAN-China Centre, China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and Chinese Football Association. Wang Jiarui, chairman of CSCLF, declared the closing of the matches. Yu Qun, vice-chairman of CSCLF; Cai Yong, full-time executive member of Chinese Football Association; and Deng Mingkui, Vietnamese ambassador to China, delivered speeches at the ceremony. Kong Rumeng, director of Education, Culture and Tourism Department of ASEAN-China Centre, attended the ceremony on behalf of the centre, and read out the speech of Chen Dehai, secretary general of the centre. Representatives from embassies and consulates of eight ASEAN countries also attended the ceremony, namely Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore. The representatives awarded prizes to the winning teams and players.
The matches lasted for four days. Ten U12 youth soccer teams in all from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and China participated in the matches. After a fierce rivalry, Thailand won the championship, while China and Malaysia finished second and third, respectively. Thailand won the Most Valuable Player award, Malaysia won the Top Scorer award, and China won the Best Goalkeeper award and Fair Play Award. There were also many cultural exchanging activities during the matches.
ASEAN-China Centre has co-sponsored the matches for four years with CSCLF and Chinese Football Association, with the aim of promoting friendly exchanges between the young people of the two sides, as well as common development of the cause of soccer, and the friendship among the people.
During the activities in Hangzhou, representatives from the embassies and consulates, together with the representatives from CSCLF, visited Alibaba Company and Liang Zhu Museum.
