Students perform 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' play in Malay
Malaysian primary school students performed in Malay some memorable stories adapted from the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms in play form in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, Nov 15, 2019. The performance, attended by 10 Chinese primary schools from different regions of Malaysia, won warm applause from the audience many times.
The event was co-sponsored by Malaysia's National Department for Culture and Arts, the National Language Bureau and the Han Cultural Center Malaysia. Chen Guowei, Malaysia's special envoy to China who watched the performance, said that it was the first time for Malaysian students to stage stories from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms in Malay, which not only helps to spread Chinese culture in Malaysia, but also promotes mutual understanding and friendship between different ethnic groups in Malaysia.
Wu Hengcan, chairman of the Han Cultural Center Malaysia, said that this was the third time for Malaysia to perform plays based on Chinese classics. He hoped that they could stage all four Chinese classics in Malay in the future.
