Primary school takes study trip to Singapore

WACCCE 2019-02-21

On Jan 24 more than 80 teachers and students from Oak Bay Branch School, a primary school attached to Northwestern University, went to Singapore for a six-day international exchange program.

The first stop of this study trip was at Meihua Primary School in Singapore. Teachers and students from both sides attended classes and participated in extracurricular activities together. They shared the stage, displaying distinctive culture and communicated with each other in English. Immersive communication activities impressed Chinese teachers and students with unique learning environments and teaching modes. They also gave each other gifts to strengthen their friendship.

To build up cultural cognition and national self-confidence, after the exchange activities teachers and students left Meihua Primary School for Singapore multi-ethnic colonial cultural heritage. By visiting Merlion Park, Coastal Art Center, Raffles landing site, peace monument and Arab street, they deeply understood the historical and cultural background of the city and became inspired by the diverse characteristics of Singapore.

Singapore River is an indispensable part of the history and culture of Singapore. Visiting by ship, teachers and students appreciated vital historical scenes, colonial buildings and bridges to understand how Singapore developed from a backward fishing village to today's prosperous modern harbor, experiencing the struggle of the people in Singapore.

In order to further understand the natural and geographical environment of Singapore, teachers and students went to a botanical garden and night zoo to discover the wonders of nature and the mysteries of life. With more than 20,000 tropical and subtropical flowers, rare trees and endangered species, the botanical garden is the first UNESCO world heritage site in Singapore. Known as a "miniature of lush tropical islands", it has become a "lively classroom" for students to expand their knowledge about plants and nature.

The 24-hour Singapore night zoo is one of the top 10 zoos in the world. It uses natural barriers instead of fences to create a natural living environment for all kinds of animals. Students here can be integrated into nature, getting close contact with tropical animals.

In terms of geography study, teachers and students mainly visited Sentosa island at the southernmost tip of the Asian continent to learn about its development from a fishing village to a famous resort.

The themes of this research and study exchange activity are various and diverse, covering a variety of fields including history, nature and geography, as well as science and technology, academy and art. The Science Museum of Singapore, Universal Studios and the Wings of Time are all important places for students to explore science and technology.

Through 85 interactive exhibitions, the Science Museum of Singapore shows visitors the wonders and magic of science. With hands-on projects, students were encouraged to imagine and think positively in order to cultivate their innovation and exploration ability. Singapore Hollywood Movie Theme Park - Universal Studios has 24 movie-themed rides and attractions. Students can discover the ancient world through the Shrek 4D cinema and Jurassic park.

In order to strengthen the significance of research, Xi 'an Overseas Lemon Research Institute (double-check this translation) particularly arranges teachers and students to enter Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, to feel a western higher education atmosphere and gain close contact with the excellent British education, provoking students to set goals and put in effort themselves.

This research activity is well organized and diverse which has been highly appraised by school, students and parents. Organized by Xi 'an Overseas Lemon Research Institute (double check this translation), the exchange activity aims to establish a good platform for Oak Bay School students to better know the world, to provide opportunities for them to "discover the world and themselves", and set up a correct outlook on life and world. In the future, Lemon Research (double check) will continue to adhere to the purpose of cultural education, providing better quality services for young people.
