“Mr. Liao, what do you think of my show?” asked Yang Qinglin after his performance.

Yang Qinglin's teacher, Liao Mingfei, came forward and gave him a big hug, saying "It is wonderful!” At that moment, bursts of applause broke out at the sight of this touching scene between teacher and student.

The scene illustrated a touching moment from the Belt and Road International Youth Art Festival held at the Siam Theater in Thailand on Feb 12. It was co-sponsored by The World Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations and China International Cultural and Art Communication Promotion Association. Yang, who is from Hong Kong, was invited to perform at the opening ceremony.

Liao, one of the judges of the organizing committee, as well as Yang’s teacher, said that Yang’s performance was warmly welcomed by the audience. He believes the audience would not only be touched by Yang’s voice and persistence, but by the poem, Poetic China, and Chinese culture.

On this stage, every child is the messenger of cultural exchange and the seed of Chinese culture, blooming with unique charm and brilliance. During the 90 minute opening ceremony, the audience experienced wonderful performances by artists from China's Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Shanghai, and Xi 'an, and also South Korea and other places in the world.

At the performance, Yang was the cute boy in a white suit standing in the center of the stage, greeting the audience with his unique smile. As the smallest guest, he was the biggest surprise for the audience.

Yang's poetic speech echoed through the theater. Supported by the harmonious music of musicians from the Central Conservatory of Music, Sichuan Conservatory of Music and Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Yang's show was beautiful, like a picture. On stage, the projector displayed pictures of Yang's childhood performances, then switched to water droplets, the sky, flowers and the vast land of China. If Poetic China is a portrayal of China, then Yang represents the youth of China, proudly appearing on the world stage.

Through his excellent performance, it was hard to imagine the difficulties behind the show. Yang flew between four countries in 20 days and the changing time zones changes created a knotty problem with jet lag.

As the guest contestant of the 10th Hong Kong Golden Bauhinia Putonghua Speech and Talent Competition 2018, Yang first performed Never Forget the Original Intention in Hong Kong. Then he flew to the UK with his teacher to perform The Most Beautiful Smile on the stage of the Happy Chinese New Year event, and his third trip took him to the United States. After studying in the U.S., he finally stood on the stage in Thailand.

"We frequently traveled around the world, even I can not get over the time difference, it was really painful,” Liao said of the jet lag.

When Yang was unable to fall asleep, he would practice his poems with his teacher again and again. It was the preparation and his confidence that allowed Yang to perform perfectly, a sincere expression from a child.

When Liao was asked that how a child as young as Yang could get the opportunity to perform in shows, he said firmly: Because of trust.

Yang has rich stage experience: He was in one of the leading roles in the symphony fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty, first performed at the Hong Kong Cultural Center. And he also performed Never Forget the Original Intention in Southwest China's Guiyang and Sichuan province. On the stage of Sing the Chinese in Beijing, he shocked the audience with his exceptional performance. In 2018, Yang 's first solo spoken album, The Carnival of Animals, was released nationwide by China's Guangzhou Record Company, making his beautiful voice available to every corner in the world.

Yang is not only a speechmaker, but also plays piano well, which is the another way for him to praise love and beauty.

Nowadays, more and more outstanding children are stepping onto international stages, delivering Chinese voices to the world.

"The Golden Bauhinia has been held for 10 years, from Hong Kong to the mainland, from the mainland to the international community. No matter where we go, we will retain the original intention, that is, to cultivate excellent talents and spread Chinese culture," Liao said.
