To commemorate the Grand Canal and Silk Road being listed on the World Heritage List, an opening ceremony for Modern Chinese Ceramics and Paintings Arts Week was held at the Tokyo Chinese Cultural Center on July 28. The exhibition, which is the largest modern ceramic art exhibition held in Japan, will present more than 130 pieces of ceramics and brush drawings from nine famous Chinese potters and painters, including Guan Baozong.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Ren Shijun, the Director General of Tokyo Chinese Cultural Center. Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and his wife Miyuki Hatoyama, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua, and famous artistic master Guan Baozong offered speeches at the opening ceremony, which was attended by four members of Japan’s parliament and more than 100 representatives from various sectors in China and Japan.
Ambassador Cheng Yonghua stated in his speech that the Silk Road has played a crucial role in the development and prosperity of human civilization as an important way for cultural exchanges between the East and West for 2,000 years. Ceramics, important goods on the Silk Road, got the credit for being the “flower of the Silk Road” to the world. “This event has offered an opportunity for Japanese people to appreciate Silk Road and Chinese culture. I wish the exhibition a success,” he said.
