Leifeng Pagoda

Leifeng Pagoda is located on Sunset Hill south of West Lake in Hangzhou. For thousands of years, the pagoda was associated with the legend of the White Snake. Since its collapse in 1924, two essays by Lu Xun made it even more well-known. The original pagoda was built in 977 AD, during Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, at the order of King Qian Chu (born Qian Hongchu) of Wuyue Kingdom. The new 71-meter-high pagoda has five stories and covers an area of 3,133 square meters. It is an octagonal tower designed on the ruins of the Southern Song Dynasty.
