Buddha Tower of Yingxian County

The Buddha Tower of Yingxian County, the oldest and tallest wooden Buddha Tower in China was built in 1056AD. The base of the pagoda has a radius of 30 meters and is 67.13 meters high. This octagonal five-storied pagoda has 54 dougong (a system of brackets inserted between the top of a column and a crossbeam) and typifies Buddha towers in Chinese architecture. After 900 years, it has withstood several earthquakes because the Buddha tower has a big body and the floors are largely separated from each other. Staircases inside the pagoda give people access to the top of the tower so they can enjoy the surroundings.
