National Museum of Chinese Writing
The National Museum of Chinese Writing is a state-level museum constructed withthe approval of the State Council for preserving, showcasing and studying cultural relics. The Museum is located in central China's Henan province, the birthplace of the oracle bone inscriptions. It is also a popular science center of Chinese character culture, national popular science education base and patriotism education base.
The museum, with the world's characters as the background, mainly exhibits Chinese characters and ethnic minority characters. It gathers the essence of Chinese characters all along the nation's history, and explains the structural characteristics and evolution of the characters. With detailed information, arigorous layout, scientific methods and modern display means, the exhibition fully displays the inherited characters, brilliant culture and civilization of the Chinese nation. The museum also reflects the research results of Chinese civilization and language, which has the dual mission of popularization and furtheringacademia.
NMCW is divided into two phases. Phase I, covering an area of 5.1 hectareswith a building area of 22,700 square meters, consists of a main hall, a square and a Character Archway, mainly for cultural collection and presentation. Phase II, covering an area of 11.67 hectareswith a building area of 32,000 square meters, mainly consists of a Scientific Research Center, a Science Popularization and anExchange Center.
After the completion of the project, the Museum will become a fully-functional, knowledge-based and information-oriented museum open to the world, as a window of showing Chinese culture and a platform for international cultural exchanges.
