Thadingyut - Myanmar's festival of lights
Burmese people and monks gathered at the Shwedagon Pagoda in downtown Yangon to celebrate the Thadingyut Festival. The Shwedagon Pagoda and its surrounding areas were packed with people, and the night was filled with a sense of joy and peace. Thadingyut Festival is usually held on the full moon in the seventh month of the Burmese calendar. According to Buddhist legend, Buddha Sakyamuni preached sutras for the gods from April 15 to July 15 of the Burmese calendar. When the moon is full in July, Sakyamuni will come to the world surrounded by the gods, and the Burmese people light colorful lights and candles to welcome him.
