Hainan will host the China International Consumer Products Expo in Haikou, capital city of Hainan province next May, the provincial government announced.

The annual event will take place at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center in Haikou from May 7 to 10, 2021, and be sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the Hainan provincial government.

The trade development bureau of the MOC and the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development will organize the event.

Imports and sales of foreign commodities for the international expo will be exempt from duties.

Using the slogan "Hainan, Pioneer of a More Open China", the expo will serve to position Hainan as an international tourism and consumption center. It will also promote China's market and huge potential to cultivate a new development layout in which the domestic and international dual circulation can benefit from one another.

Covering 100,000 square meters, the expo will showcase products including fashion accessories, jewelry and diamonds, food, automobiles, consumer electronics, cultural creativity and travel life goods, medical and healthcare products and pet supplies.

Expo organizers have invited more than 100 luxury goods companies and well-known tax-free business giants to attend the exhibition. Overseas exhibitors will enjoy tax exemption policies and special arrangements for offshore duty-free goods.

The expo is expected to attract over 1,000 exhibitors and 50,000 professional visitors. Summits and forums on luxury goods and tax-free industries are high on the agenda, and tailor-made matchmaking services will be provided to professional buyers from around the world.

Hainan's MICE industry-meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions-has been growing fast and becoming a strong driver for local tourism development. It is encouraged by government support, high-profile international summits and the island's natural charms.

Events will mainly take place in Haikou, the provincial capital at the northern tip of Hainan Island, Sanya, an international coastal resort city at the southern tip, and Boao in Qionghai on the eastern coast, the permanent site of the Boao Forum for Asia, according to local commerce authorities.
